Wallingford Remodel

Residential Remodel

Brief

Residential remodel
This project involved the renovation of a historic 1908 residential building originally constructed as a triplex. The clients purchased the property to accommodate their growing family while maintaining part of the building as an income-producing rental. The design combined the two upper units into a single family residence while preserving the lower level as a separate apartment. Years of use as a rental property had left the building in very rough condition, with much of its original character and craftsmanship either damaged or lost. Rather than pursuing a contemporary redesign, the goal of the project was to restore the traditional quality and charm of the house. The renovation focused on repairing the underlying structure and carefully reintroducing details consistent with the building’s early twentieth-century origins. Through restoration and thoughtful reconstruction, the project sought to recover the sense of craftsmanship and proportion that once defined the building, allowing the home to again reflect the architectural character of its era while supporting modern family life.
